Description:
This is a farm laborer position at the SUU farm.
Duties include:
- Feeding livestock morning and night.
- Maintaining irrigation systems.
- Operating various farm equipment once you are fully trained and qualified to do so.
- Putting up & letting down sheep fence at the SUU mountain ranch.
- Fence repair and new construction of fence lines (Lots of fence fixing and labor work).
- Loading a truck with 40 small bales (80-100lbs each) several times a day at times in order to feed the animals.
- Cutting with a shovel or spraying noxious weeds.
- Picking up rocks and trash around the farm.
Qualifications:
- Agriculture students are preferred for training in their related field of study.
- Must be willing to work weekends and some holidays.
- Willing to work different hours when we are lambing and haying.
- Willing to work nights whenever necessary. This is not a typical 7am to 5pm Job.
- Must be a self-starter that shows up on time and is a responsible person willing to clean up after yourself and put tools away after using them.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift 95lb hay bales unassisted.
- Must be able to load a truck load of 95lb bales, 35 bales, sometimes 3 times per day.
- Welding is a preferred skill.
- Must be a skilled horse person both on the ground and in the saddle.
- Must be coachable and teachable and have good listening skills.
- Must be able to work safely and make good decisions about your own safety and the safety of your co-workers.
- Must wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- You may be required to obtain certain certifications for this job, like spray applicator license as spraying weeds is part of the job requirements; take the safe driving course etc…
- You must provide your own transportation to and from the SUU Farm.
